Consents and monitoring

Cawthron's applied research is the basis for its expertise in providing client-focused practical solutions for all aquatic aspects of the Resource Management Act. Cawthron staff are sought after for their ability to cost-effectively follow the resource consent process through from Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE), to the Environment Court stage.

Cawthron's services include:

  • Risk analyses and predictive modelling
  • Assessment of Ecological Effects (AEE) and monitoring covering all aquatic resources and their use
  • Design, reporting, public consultation, peer review and expert witnesses

Cawthron's tools, data and capabilities in this area include:

  • Benthic and water sampling systems including: acoustic camera (DIDSON), sediment grabs, side-scan sonar, dredges, in-house laboratory and taxonomy expertise
  • Radio telemetry, electro-fishing, netting and trapping equipment
  • Oceanographic instrumentation: current meters, conductivity-temperature-depth instruments, real-time on-board data collection systems, and in-house phytoplankton laboratory
