Microalgae monitoring programme

Microalgae monitoring focuses on toxic species found in marine waters around New Zealand

Cawthron's IANZ-accredited laboratory offers microalgae identification and cell counts for marine water. Operating since 1993, the microalgae laboratory provides early warning of risks associated with toxic marine species at over 110 sites around the coast of New Zealand.

Through the provision of this service, Cawthron is able to source species that are known to produce bioactive compounds that may be of commercial interest.
