Identification of Didymo & Other Invasive Species
Accredited tests for Didymosphenia geminata (Didymo) and other freshwater algae.
Cawthron has been IANZ accredited under ISO 17025 for both species identification and Cyanotoxin analysis by LC-MS in freshwater samples. Cawthron can also design and implement monitoring programmes to identify Didymo and other invasive species.
Background:
The invasive diatom Didymospenia geminata (Didymo) has recently been found in the Buller and Hawea Rivers, having spread from the Waiau/Mararoa catchment in Southland. There is considerable concern about the effects that this species will have on rivers in New Zealand. Cawthron offers a "one stop shop" for nuisance microalgae, such as Didymo, and toxic cyanobacteria analysis in New Zealand.
