Cawthron’s full food testing capability geared to assist food industry implement government’s sweeping food labelling reforms.
The Press reported on 31 August 2007 that “sweeping reforms are planned for the food industry…as the Government declares war on obesity and type 2 diabetes. A parliamentary select committee wants the Government to drive changes in the way food is labelled, promoted and sold”. The food industry must implement these changes or face regulation.
Cawthron’s food testing capability is geared to provide industry with all testing required for the labelling of food products, including the parliamentary select committee recommendation for traffic-light styled food labelling.
Cawthron Laboratory Services test results are already accepted by the New Zealand Heart Foundation, as the basis for qualifying for the ‘Tick’ on food products, and the laboratories are well-placed to support the food industry as it implements this “war on obesity”.
