Cawthron's Sustainable Business Group is looking for two new analysts.
One position will focus on social science, policy and risk analysis. This analyst will develop a framework and analysis to assist decision-making by businesses, government and councils facing risk - ecological, social or financial. The ideal candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree (MSc or PhD preferred) and would combine training and/or experience in social science (e.g. sociology), public policy and statistics. Economics capability and familiarity with tikanga Māori or kaupapa Māori would also be an advantage.
Work will include research on understanding and incorporating public attitudes to marine biosecurity risk into a decision-making framework for policy and other policy and economic analysis projects.
The second analyst will undertake a study of the prospects for land-based aquaculture in New Zealand. The aim is to develop and test a methodology for determining the feasibility of land-based aquaculture that can be used to assess proposals for particular species at a variety of sites. In addition to production requirements and financial feasibility, the methodology will assess other ecological, economic, social and cultural aspects of sustainability. The successful candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in biology, engineering or related fields. S/he will have enthusiasm for new enterprises and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work across a variety of disciplines (e.g. biology, engineering, business or financial analysis, resource management and planning).
