New NZFSA Imported Food Requirements: Bivalve Molluscan Shellfish - Biotoxins by LCMS.

The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) has recently implemented the Imported Food Requirements: Bivalve Molluscan Shellfish; outlined in the Food Standards 2007.

This Standard states that imported shellfish must be monitored for metal contaminants, biotoxins, pathogenic bacteria and pathogenic viruses.

The methods for the biotoxin tests have been specified in the Standard and Cawthron Laboratory Services is the only NZFSA-approved laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere able to undertake the biotoxin testing using the specified LCMS methods.

Cawthron can also perform the testing on metal contaminants and pathogenic bacteria.
