Cawthron Trust invests in science leaders

Following last year’s success, the Cawthron Trust is once again offering science leaders throughout New Zealand a unique opportunity to participate in the prestigious Hillary Leadership Programme.

The ‘Cawthron Science Leader Award’ valued at $25,000, will cover all course, travel, accommodation and associated costs for the successful applicant to participate in the 18-month part-time leadership development programme.

The Award is a tangible expression of the Trust's commitment to promoting and developing science excellence.

The successful applicant will have a background in science, currently in a management role, who is committed to integrating science and business to help create a brighter future for New Zealand.

The Cawthron Science Leader Award is a partnership between the Cawthron Trust and Excelerator: New Zealand Leadership Institute which runs the Hillary Leadership Programme.

This national programme brings together senior leaders and high potential individuals from across sectors and geographies to develop their leadership capacity.

“I started the Hillary Leadership Programme in October 2008 and have found the experience very rewarding. To be able to meet and share ideas on leadership with people from such a diverse range of backgrounds and careers has been unique and a once in a life time opportunity. I now have a completely different perspective on leadership and a new network of colleagues to bounce ideas and projects off – which I’m sure will be sustained long after the Programme ends.

The Cawthron Science Leader Award enabled me to participate in this Programme and I am very grateful to have been the inaugural recipient of this award. I acknowledge the Cawthron Trust for having the vision and commitment to create an award that actively fosters the development of science leaders in New Zealand.”
