With Science Fair Season almost upon us, Cawthron have created a new tool to help students, parents and teachers interested in science and technology. The Cawthron Science and Technology Fair website is launched today and is an Aladdins' Cave of helpful hints and tips not to mention essential entry forms, weekly updates and rules.
The Nelson schools' science fair has been running for over 25 years and is a labour of love for the Cawthron Trust Board. Judene Edgar, Secretary of the Board, says "it is a mammoth task with hundreds of entries each year, but such a rewarding event as the projects just get better and better".
For the past ten years Des Duthie led the fair, however this year he has passed the reins to the Cawthron Trust Board as the primary sponsor of the event. There is more incentive than ever to enter as the prizes and awards have far exceeded previous years, with almost twenty businesses and organisations throughout the region now involved as sponsors. The awards range from an all-expenses paid placement at the week-long "Hands on Science" event at the University of Otago, to hundreds of dollars in prize money.
Dedicated to the annual Cawthron Science and Technology Fair, the new website provides essential information for parents, students and teachers leading up to the event, in addition to the various photo galleries for during and after the fair. Maps, ethics forms, criteria for special awards and posters are all available at www.cawthronsciencefair.org.nz
The Cawthron Science and Technology Fair is located at the Ernest Rutherford Retirement Village from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd September 2012. The judging process will take place on Wednesday 19th and from Thursday – Saturday projects will be available for public viewing. An awards event is planned for Wednesday 26th September. With the Nelson region being home to some of the top scientists in New Zealand, it could be an opportunity to see a rising star!
