Travel Directions

Getting to Nelson by air is the easiest option. A taxi to the hotel and the centre of town from the airport will cost about NZ$25 to NZ$30.

If you have a bit of time then you could come by road from the international airport in Christchurch. There are two roads into Nelson from Christchurch, one that comes up the east coast and one that is more central inland. Both take about 5 to 6 hours of travel by vehicle or bus.

If you come through Wellington then you can catch a ferry to Picton (which takes about 3 hours) and is quite spectacular if the weather is good, and quite exhilarating if the weather is bad (and you have the stomach for it). You will have to make arrangements with a tour company to meet a bus in Picton or you could arrange a rental car. The road trip to Nelson from Picton will take approximately 2 hrs.
