Estuaries are highly productive, with complex interrelationships and heterogeneous communities inhabiting them. Increasing loads of sediment, nutrients and other pollutants into our estuaries lead to significant changes to these habitats. Informed decision-making on the management of estuarine areas, and the activities impacting on them, is guided by accurate baseline data.
Cawthron's capabilities in this area include:
- Design of estuary 'state of environment' or consent monitoring programmes
- Baseline assessments of estuarine sediment and ecological health
- Assessment of habitat composition
- Monitoring of, and reporting on, changes in estuarine health using quantitative data
