Toni Grant and Andrea Goodman have been appointed as Trustees on the Cawthron Institute Trust Board. Both bring considerable skills and experience and will contribute to Cawthron’s success and growth.
Andrea has an ecology background and is currently a Principal Advisor with the Department of Conservation. Previous roles include the Tasman Biodiversity Strategy Working Group, Kea Conservation Trust and the Nelson Marlborough Conservation Board.
She believes that science will enable future generations to build a better understanding of our natural world and says, “I enjoy working in the environmental space, with big picture thinking that comes with working in collaboration. Important to me, is whanaungatanga – connecting, fostering and maintaining relationships to create enduring, positive environmental change.”
Toni also knows about the importance of science and says, “I feel incredibly honoured to join the Trust Board. I have seen first-hand the role that science and innovation play in determining environmental outcomes. Science is key to helping humanity thrive, by seizing the opportunities in front of us and tackling pressing issues of our time. I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the table.”
As well as governance experience in commercial not-for-profit and community-owned organisations, Toni has worked across Iwi entities and in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
John Palmer, Chair of the Cawthron Institute Trust Board, welcomed both Trustees to their first meeting in September.
“Their skills will help ensure Cawthron’s science continues to deliver solutions that support the aspirations of e Tauihu and Aotearoa New Zealand. I am incredibly proud of what Cawthron has achieved over the past one-hundred years, and confident that the appointment of these Trustees bodes well for the future as Cawthron advances science and inspires the next generation of scientists.”
Toni and Andrea filled vacancies that were created following the retirements of Harvey Ruru and Bev Doole, both of whom have been valuable contributors to the Trust Board.
