Cawthron Institute has announced that Doug Steiner, an entrepreneur with an international background focused on the design of new business models, has joined the Board of Directors.

Doug has started, run and sold innovative businesses in financial technology and behavioural science, and more recently has been advising firms and governments internationally on organisational optimisation.

He is an Edmund Hillary Fellow and Adjunct Fellow at University of Canterbury Business School, and received an MBA from IMD Lausanne, Switzerland, and BA Econ. from Western University. Doug has also served on several public company, regulatory and not-for-profit boards.

In addition to his impressive resume, in 2016 Doug was inducted to the Investment Industry Hall of Fame by the Investment Industry Association of Canada for his pioneering work in the application of technology to new investment products and services.

Lees Seymour, Chair of Cawthron Institute Board of Directors, said Doug will bring valuable skills in the application of technology, behavioural science, and innovative business models to Cawthron as it implements its ambitious science plan.

“Doug has an excellent range of skills and experiences to add to the mix here at Cawthron. This coupled with his curiousness and drive will help us achieve our ambitious science goals. I very much look forward to having him on our team,” said Seymour.

Doug’s term officially began on 1 November 2024. He fills the vacancy left by Nagaja Sanatkumar, who stepped down earlier this year after four years on the Board.
