New Scitec special prize announced

Win a taste of university life with Hands-On at Otago 2026

Join over 400 students from across Aotearoa New Zealand for a week of authentic
university life during the summer holidays.

Choose your favourite subject from many topics and get hands-on in a university
department. You’ll interact with Otago researchers and learn about their discoveries.
Live in a university residential college for the week, with social and recreational
activities filling your afternoons and evenings. It’s a genuine preview of student life at
one of New Zealand’s leading universities.

Demand for a place on the programme is competitive, last year there were close to
1,000 applications. This is a fantastic opportunity for the lucky winner.

Hands-on at Otago 2026 will run from: Sunday 11 – Friday 16 January, 2026.

For Parents: Students receive full supervision throughout the Hands-On at Otago
programme.

What’s included in the prize?

The prize winner receives full coverage for Hands-On at Otago, valued up to
$1500:

• Accommodation & meals – Stay in Te Rangihīroa, our newest residential
  college, with your own room. All meals included (breakfast, lunch, dinner), plus
  bed, bedding and towels
• Return flights – Economy flights to/from Dunedin (alternative transport
  considered)
• Local transport – Airport/bus terminal transfers to the programme
• Programme costs – All activities and course materials covered
• Note: Other personal expenses not included. Cash alternatives are not available
  if the winner cannot attend.

Who can enter? Students entering Year 12 or 13 in 2026.
