Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Advisor
Role at Cawthron
Ian oversees biosecurity, compliance and animal ethics at Cawthron Institute. He works with staff across Cawthron to advise on biosecurity policies and procedures for their projects. Ian also acts as a liaison between Cawthron and regulatory bodies, such as MPI, to ensure compliance is met.
On matters relating to Animal Ethics at Cawthron Ian ensures protocols are followed with the strictest regulations and provides advice to staff. He has an extensive background in animal welfare and has experience on Animal advisory committees. Ian also represents Cawthron at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) Animal Ethics Committee.

- Representative for the Australian New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART)
- Contributed to the development of the Openness Agreement on Animal Research and Teaching in New Zealand
- Experience in leadership and management of a Biomedical Research Animal Facility
- Experience with biosecurity operations on Fish Farms
